The LT4294 is a single feature 802.3bt PD controller that can be used with any high efficiency switching regulator. Whether using isolated or non-isolated switches, the flexibility of the switch supports the use of off-the-shelf and proprietary power solutions. Unlike traditional PD controllers with integrated power MOSFETs, the LT4294 controls an external MOSFET to drastically reduce the total heat generated by the PD and maximize power efficiency, which is especially important at higher power levels of 802.3bt. The external MOSFET architecture allows the user to select the size of the MOSFET to suit the application. The standard solution based on the LT4294 typically selects a low RDS(ON) 30m? MOSFET.
