How to use the megohmmeter (insulation shaker)?

For measuring electrical equipment and different objects of different voltage levels, it is necessary to select a megohmmeter of the corresponding voltage level. For measuring electrical equipment below 500V, 500M megger should be selected, 500V or more and 3000V or less, 1000V megohmmeter, 3000V and above 2500V megohmmeter. 1. Before the measurement, the instrument should be tested for open circuit and short circuit to check the quality of the megohmmeter. The open circuit experiment is to separate the instrument line, then shake the table to 120 rpm, then the pointer should be at infinity position; the short circuit experiment is to short the two table lines, shake the handle (start slowly) to 120 rpm / minute, the meter pointer should be at zero.

2. The megohmmeter has three terminals, labeled LE and G. In the measurement, L is connected to the conductor of the object to be tested; E is connected to the device casing or another phase conductor insulated from the measured electrified phase; the G terminal is used to prevent measurement error due to leakage current of the tested insulation surface. And set, it is connected to the insulation where the L end of the object is connected, and is wound with a soft bare wire 3~5匝.

3. When measuring, the shaking speed of the shaker should be about 120 rpm. Generally, connect the EG end first, and then shake the watch, then connect the L end. After one minute, the meter pointer is stable and then read.

4. After reading, first remove the L line of the meter, then stop shaking the table. This is especially important for measuring devices that are quite capacitive, such as capacitors. Otherwise, the shaken watch will be damaged due to the object being tested being sent back to the meter. Immediately after the measurement, the object to be tested is manually discharged.

5. Since the shake meter measures the insulation resistance with a high resistance value, there is a high requirement for the test line. otherwise. The leakage current of the test line affects the accuracy of the measurement. Test lines must be used exclusively. A single insulated soft copper wire with high insulation strength should not be replaced by ordinary soft copper stranded wire.

6. Thorough manual discharge of the object to be tested must be performed before measurement, especially for capacitive devices.

7. Pay attention to the use of the environment, try to stay away from strong magnetic fields, and should not shake the insulation resistance in the rain. When the ambient humidity is high, the effects of humidity should be considered.
