Britain invests 20 million pounds to develop quantum sensing technology

According to foreign media reports, the UK "Industry Strategic Challenge Fund" will invest 20 million pounds to support the development of three to five prototype quantum devices for future sensor, consumer electronics and digital services. This groundbreaking investment will be used to determine if more funds in the future will help UK companies gain global advantage.

Sir Peter Knight said at the UK National Physics Laboratory Quantum Industry Dinner: "To ensure UK leadership in this field and to ensure that UK companies can take a significant share of this large industry in the future, we must immediately be in various industries and academia. Take action with the government to achieve innovation."

The following are three quantum technology research and innovation projects for future case studies:

Cold Atomic Space Payload (CASPA): A group led by Teledyne e2v is currently developing a small satellite payload to generate cold atoms in space. The CASPA project aims to demonstrate that this space core technology will be an important step in the future to map gravity to Earth instruments.

Single-Pixel Imaging Technology (QUANTIC): QuantiC researchers have developed imaging technologies that use single-pixel cameras. The camera is able to breathe through smoke, observe gas leaks and capture high-precision 3D images. This technology combines a low-cost micromirror array and image reconstruction algorithm to capture video images of the scene faster than existing scanning systems. Through extensive research and development, QuantiC has developed prototypes for gas sensing and computing 3D lidar systems, or for heavy industry and defense and security sectors.

Deep underground: Physicists and civil engineers at the National Center for Sensors and Metrology in the UK, in collaboration with industrial partners such as Te2v and RSK, are currently developing quantum gravity sensors to locate buried underground without the need for excavation. public facilities. These sensors have the potential to accelerate the positioning process by a factor of 100, saving the UK hundreds of millions of pounds a year.
