Teach you to know HDMI different standards are not small

In recent years, with the rise of high-definition projectors, digital TVs, and high-definition flat-panel TVs, the HDMI interface has gradually become more and more recognized by consumers. Go to the market, no matter whether it is LCD, plasma, rear projection, or high-definition projector, many display devices are equipped with HDMI interface, and many DVD players are also equipped with this interface.

In the past few years, we found that with the HDMI interface, the difference in the market price of the display products is revealed. You can find that the same brand, the same series, the same size flat-panel TV and projector, with and without HDMI interface, its market price is still a big gap. Only today, the HDMI interface has become a must for flat-panel TVs and high-definition projectors, so the gap is already very small.

However, I still want to remind everyone that even if it is the same HDMI interface, the difference between different versions is still relatively large. In order to let everyone lose the HDMI interface when purchasing a large-screen display product, I still hope to make a brief introduction about the different versions and different standard differences.

To introduce the HDMI interface, we still have to start from its emergence and development. The so-called HDMI, is the High Definition Multimedia Interface, which is the abbreviation of high-definition multimedia interface. It delivers high-quality uncompressed HD video and multi-channel audio data at up to 5Gbps.

Nowadays, the HDMI interface can not only meet the current highest resolution 1080P resolution, but also supports the most advanced digital audio formats such as DVD Audio, supporting eight-channel 96kHz or stereo 192kHz digital audio transmission. In other words, we only need one HDMI cable connection to eliminate the complicated digital audio connections in audio and video playback.

Compared with DVI, the HDMI interface is smaller, and it can transmit audio and video signals at the same time. We know that, in general, DVI cable length can not exceed 8 meters, otherwise it will affect the picture quality. However, the HDMI interface basically eliminates the limitation of the cable length. With just one HDMI cable, we can save up to 13 analog transmission lines, which can save the trouble of complex connections. For the majority of consumers, HDMI technology can not only provide clear high-definition pictures, but also use this cable when playing video/audio, which will greatly simplify the installation and deployment of our audio and video users.

Since the HDMI interface is very important for high-definition video and audio users, many manufacturers have begun to configure the HDMI interface on large-screen display devices to expand the functionality of the display. However, we know that HDMI is a charging interface standard. To be loaded, it will increase the cost. Many manufacturers will apply some low-level HDMI interfaces, which will save the support of the license fee. Cost of production.

As everyone knows, the HDMI interface varies greatly in specifications. If you buy a LCD TV at a high price, and its HDMI interface is a low version, is this a disadvantage? This is very natural. If the version of the HDMI interface is not selected well, audio and video users will encounter a lot of troubles during use. I believe that everyone is not familiar with the different versions of the HDMI interface, then the author will briefly introduce to the consumers:

Nowadays, the HDMI interface on HD display devices mainly has three different versions of 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. Let's first look at the HDMI 1.1 version:

HDMI version 1.1

This version of the interface was released earlier. When receiving video signals, the 1.1 version only supports 1080i standard signals, but it does not fully support 1080P HD specifications. In the past few years, we can basically meet the needs of users. Today, only supporting 1080i format can not meet the needs of the majority of audio and video enthusiasts.

Therefore, the HDMI interface version 1.1 still has a series of compatibility issues, and now it can only support standard resolutions such as 800×600 and 1024×768. Even with the 1366×768 resolution of the low-end flat-panel TVs at this stage, this initial version of the HDMI excuse is already not acceptable for compatibility. What's more, LCD TVs equipped with such excuses cannot perform point-to-point output when playing HD signals, and the presented images may be blurred and unclear.

HDMI 1.2 version

In order to solve the problems of low resolution supported by HDMI 1.1 and poor compatibility with computer equipment, the HDMI standard organization introduced the HDMI 1.2 standard in 2005. This interface based on the t-tOMtT2 standard achieves 165MHz bandwidth on a single link, provides a data rate of 4.95Gbps, and fully supports 1080p full HD video signals.

By modifying the specification standard, the HDMI 1.2 version also enhances the compatibility of the display interface of the PC device, and can easily support all display resolutions including 1366×768, and is a point-to-point mode capable of fully supporting the display screen.

HDMI 1.3 version

In 2006, the HDMI organization also released the latest interface of HDMI version 1.3, which is also the HDMI interface used by most flat-panel TVs. The biggest change brought by HDMI version 1.3 is to increase the single link bandwidth frequency to 340MHz, and also enable these LCD TVs to obtain 10.2Gbps data transmission capacity, and the 24-bit color that can be supported by HDMI1.1 and 1.2 versions. Deeply expanded to 30, 36 and 48 bits (RGB or YCbCr).

Currently, the highest specification 1080p film requires 3.72Gbps bandwidth for transmission, while most of the display devices such as high-end flat-panel TVs and projectors can display 24-bit and 1617M colors. The HDMI version 1.3 interface standard has been developed beyond the current standard configuration, which will enable the HDMI1.3 version of the interface to handle digital devices with higher display specifications.

After reading the above introduction, I believe that the big guys are more clear about the various versions of the HDMI interface. However, in the actual use process, consumers should also pay attention to many small details of the HDMI interface. To treat these high-end interfaces, consumers must pay more attention to the use of these:

HDMI interface does not support hot plugging

We know that the HDMI interface can bring us great convenience in HD playback. With a single connection, high-quality audio and video signals can be easily transmitted. And its interface design is very user-friendly, users can plug and unplug very easily, and no need to press any buttons.

However, I don't know if you should pay attention to another problem. If the user is in the state of being turned on, the user cannot directly plug in or unplug it, because it is easy to cause the chip of the HDMI interface to burn out. Therefore, when we plug in the HDMI cable, we must not plug it hot. We must turn off the display device and the HD player before plugging in.

Short distance wiring is best

In general, most home users will put the HD player next to the LCD TV, which means that the short HDMI cable we need is just right. In fact, I think the 1-1.5 meter HDMI connection is very suitable.

In fact, we believe that the wire below 5 meters is a short-distance transmission, and the choice of HDMI cable is very simple. In principle, the higher the line diameter, the better the digital transmission will be. In fact, at such a short distance, no matter how thick the wire (24, 26, 28 and 30, etc.), it can be dealt with.

Long distance transmission requires reasonable wire and wiring

However, in the long-distance transmission, the majority of audio and video users should be very particular about the choice of HDMI cable. In addition to the wire diameter mentioned above, we should pay special attention when selecting the wire. Should pay attention to the production process of HDMI cable, the shielding effect should also attract special attention. Because the shielding effect of low-end HDMI cable is only 80~85%, and the shielding efficiency of high-grade wire can reach more than 90%.

When the video data is transmitted over a long distance, the difference between the 1080i or 720P signals is not too great. However, when transmitting 1080p signals, audio and video users should pay special attention to the quality of the wires when selecting HDMI cables. If the quality of the wire is not good, the display screen may even have signs such as erythema.

For long distance transmission, audio and video users may also choose to place the HDMI cable in the wall. Therefore, before wiring, we must reasonably select materials. Line 28 is generally unable to transmit 1080p signals. At the very least, it must be No. 30 HDMI cable. Because too thin wires can guarantee digital transmission quality even in short distances. .
