OSRAM Opto Semiconductors introduces the new OSTAR Headlamp LED with built-in shutter function, optimized chip setup and package design, and is said to make the new OSTAR Headlamp LED suitable for all vehicles Headlights.
The built-in shutter of this high-power LED simplifies the optical system to deliver bright, clear lighting with high efficiency and without the need for any external shutters. Currently available in single, dual, triple, quad or five chips, it is suitable for all headlight designs and can create different lighting modes and lighting scenarios. This LED discards the common silicone package and protects the chip with a glass cover that is glued to the frame while avoiding scatter losses.
The luminous flux produced by the OSTAR Headlamp LED depends on the number of chips in series, between 125 lm at 700 mA (single chip) and 1000 lm at 1 A (five chips). The high brightness produced when the voltage is maintained at 12 W is attributed to the improvement of the chip itself, the converter and the package. The thermal resistance of the five-chip version of the LED is approximately 3K/W. The highly accurate shutter function built into the lens provides a bright and clear road beam pattern and no longer loses light like a mechanical shutter. Compared to conventional solutions, the depth of the installation is also greatly reduced, and the glass cover itself makes the LEDs more robust.
Traditional HID projection systems are capable of emitting 35 to 45% of the light they produce, compared to 10% for LED solutions. In addition, LEDs have a lifetime of 10,000 to 20,000 hours, which is better than traditional solutions. In fact, LEDs usually last longer than the car itself. The LED's color temperature is 6000K, which is quite close to natural daylight, making driving a car safer. In addition, oncoming drivers will not be dazzled because headlamp manufacturers can design extremely precise light and dark transition zones. By combining different chip settings and mounting lenses on them, different lighting situations can be created, such as high beam, low beam and corner lights.
