5 foreign companies trial production of flexible OLED lighting panels

AGFA-Gevaert NV in Belgium, Philips Research in the Netherlands, HolstCentre in the Netherlands, IMEC in Belgium and TNO in the Netherlands announced the production of a 12cm square flexible OLED lighting panel with high conductivity transparent resin electrodes instead of ITO. ITO has a problem that it is difficult to ensure conductivity under a low temperature process. The transparent resin used this time has high conductivity and is suitable for use in a coating method, so that it is easy to adopt a printing process. The results were achieved with the assistance of the EU project Fast2Light, which aims to manufacture flexible OLED lighting using a printing process.

The transparent resin is Orgacon developed by AGFA as an antistatic material for film. Based on the conductive resin PEDOT/PSS which can also be used for OLED modules, Sanyo Electric and Tokyo Institute of Technology are also actively developing such materials.

The transparent electrodes of general OLED lighting panels are mostly laminated ITO films and PEDOT/PSS films. This time, by replacing the ITO with Orgacon, the conductivity of the transparent electrode was improved by about 6 times (AGFA). However, the specific conductivity and the like are not disclosed.

The OLED lighting panel produced this time increases the proportion of the printing process, such as inkjet printing, etc., which is also formed on the transparent electrode. The bottom plate uses metal foil and can be bent at will. Brightness, luminescence lifetime, and the like are not disclosed.
