Marvell launches A19 bulb and PAR38 spotlight design

Recently, Marvell, a new supplier of LED driver chips, has launched its evaluation board for digital flyback PFC control chip 88EM8081 and a variety of power specification LED driver circuit reference designs, and has launched a highly optimized implementation based on this driver chip for the Chinese market. The Turn-key design and the actual bulbs are designed to help Chinese LED lighting manufacturers reduce design costs and achieve rapid time-to-market, especially in the mid- to high-end markets, thereby accelerating the adoption of LED lighting applications.

At present, Marvell's ultra-low-power A19 turnkey design and bulbs are two-piece (see Figure 1), which can be used to replace the 40W A19 bulb incandescent lamp: one is to use 4 lighting levels Cree XLamp ® XP-E high efficiency white LED solution; the other is the Philips Lumileds LUXEON® A LED solution.

In addition, Marvell has introduced the PAR38 spotlight turnkey solution with Cree XLamp® MT-G to replace the traditional 100W lamp. At the same time, Marvell is still developing the A19 60W equivalent LED bulb solution and will soon meet with Chinese customers.

According to reports, the Turn-key design supports a variety of AC inputs with a power factor of up to 0.99 and a total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than <10%. All of these solutions have been thoroughly tested for safety and EMI/EMC to ensure that customers are CE and UL certified and meet the ENERGY STAR, LM-79 and LM-80 optical performance test standards, so they can be used directly in production.

Marvell pointed out that most suppliers currently only provide evaluation boards for a certain driver chip or support for a maximum of reference designs. Customers need to self- or outsource complex electrical, optical, thermal and form factors. Marvell offers a complete design and production package for the Turn-key design based on the 88EM8081 driver chip, including:

- a complete production kit;
- Drive circuit design documentation: electrical schematics, Gerber documentation and BOM listings;
- LED MCPCB Gerber documentation;
- 3D design documentation for complete mechanical design;
- Photometric test report;
- Chroma test report;
- thermal characteristics report;
- EMI/EMC test report;
- Lightning protection test report.

In addition, Marvell offers a 5W-50W power range reference design for a wide range of luminaire sizes, power factor up to 0.99, wide voltage input range, up to 90% efficiency, and electrical schematics, Gerber documentation and customer-specific requirements. Design documents such as BOM list and transformer specifications.

Marvell said that its Turn-key design is in line with China's LED "national conditions". There are tens of thousands of LED lighting companies in China, but only a small number of design capabilities. Combined with the "Turn-key" design, Chinese manufacturers can have the lowest Overall cost and excellent overall performance quickly bring products to market and remove barriers and barriers to entry into the mid- to high-end markets overseas.

According to reports, Marvell launched and mass-produced the innovative LED lighting product 88EM8081 (switching frequency 120KHz) controller for residential and commercial applications last year, which can be used in various solid-state lighting applications with output power up to 150W, including: A19 ball Bulbs, PAR20/30/38 spotlights, chandeliers, downlights, commercial lighting, street lights, etc.

In addition to advanced analog circuitry for high efficiency, the Marvell ® 88EM8081 architecture includes an optimized DSP core and single-stage power factor correction (PFC) circuitry that can be used to add new and unique features, allowing manufacturers to use more Less external components, which in turn significantly reduces bill of materials (BOM) costs.

The DSP core is implemented by hardware logic. Some proprietary algorithms (such as closed-loop control, PID, etc.) are solidified in it, occupying no memory and no additional cost. Marvell says this digital technology is very important for LED products that can last for more than 50,000 hours and can cater to the mass market opportunities brought about by LED lighting technology.

The Marvell 88EM8081 also supports an adaptive feedback loop that achieves the industry's highest level of PFC (0.99) and lowest total harmonic distortion (THD, <10%), making it easier to comply with global energy sources including Energy Star. Regulations. According to internal evaluation, the efficiency of this product can reach more than 85%, which is higher than 3-7% of similar products.
