At the 2015 China (International) Flat Panel Display Industry Conference, Dr. Xiao Guowei, President of Jingke Electronics (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd. gave a speech on "TV Development Trends and Backlight New Technologies". He mainly shared some new technologies for TV backlights newly developed by Jingke Electronics. There are several items in the LED industry to fill the gaps in China.


Dr. Xiaoguo Guo introduced that Jingke Electronics was established in 2003 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a registered capital of 70 million US dollars. It is headquartered in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. The entire production and R&D base is located in Nansha, Guangzhou. It is also the newly approved free trade zone of Jingke Electronics. . At present, Jingke Electronics' main product range covers a full range of LED devices and products ranging from medium and small power 0.1W to COB and ceramic flip-chip, including mobile phone flash and large-size backlight series in TV sets. Among them, Jingke Electronics COB series is mainly for lighting, but also gradually extended to the application of TV display backlight.

He said that after decades of development, LED development has always been inseparable from display technology. LEDs were originally used in backlights for mobile phones, including button displays. Through years of technical research and development and production, Jingke Electronics has been able to mass produce LED backlight products.

Dr. Xiao Guowei mentioned that LED chip technology currently presents three development directions: LED positive chip technology, LED flip chip technology, and LED vertical chip technology. Among them, LED positive chip technology and LED flip chip technology have become mainstream, and the inherent advantages of flip-chip structure, especially the advantages of high-power chips and packaging, make the advantages of flip-chip on high-power packaging more and more obvious. 13 years ago, Jingke Electronics began to develop LED flip chip, which is also increasingly used in TV backlights. He explained that flipping itself is actually one of the COB large series of packages, and flipping is the most advanced one.

Since the second half of 2014, in addition to the intelligentization of the TV industry, ultra-high color gamut, ultra-high resolution of 4K or more, curved surfaces, and quantum dots have become new highlights. Dr. Xiaowei Guo exemplified that the highlights of Samsung TV products are mainly reflected in the surface and 4K high resolution and 110% high color gamut quantum dot technology; the high brightness and high contrast of Sony XBR-900C TV become the selling point; TCL also uses The technology of quantum dots. He said that many of these products have a direct relationship with the point of purchase, including quantum dot technology.

He believes that the future of TV sets presents two major development directions: first, ultra-high resolution above 4K. With the continuous development of a series of technologies for LED chips and LED packages, there is still an increase in brightness of about 15% per year, which can support the high resolution requirements of LED TVs. Second, the demand for large-size TVs has grown faster. At present, direct-lit LED backlight has become the mainstream. As consumers' demand for large-sized panels grows, this puts more demands on LEDs.

In response to the market's new demand for LED backlights, Jingke Electronics has already developed a series of new technologies. Dr. Xiao Guowei introduced that Jingke Electronics mainly upgrades high color gamut LED backlights through new R powder packaging and COB packaging technology. According to reports, the traditional NTSC is difficult to achieve more than 80%, and Jingke Electronics can achieve more than 95% of the technology that can be close to quantum dots by adding new powders and matching better LCD panels. Due to the material properties of the quantum dots themselves, they have a relatively large attenuation for high temperature and moist heat.

Dr. Xiao Guowei concluded that the change of LED chip structure and the introduction of quantum dot technology will provide a better choice for TV backlights.
