Founded in late 1998, the LIN Association was originally founded by BMW, Volvo, Audi, VW, DaimlerChrysler, Motorola and VCT, five automakers, a semiconductor manufacturer and a software tool manufacturer. The main focus of the association is to define an open set of standards for low-cost internal interconnect networks (LIN) in vehicles that do not need to use CAN networks for both bandwidth and complexity. The LIN standard includes definitions of transport protocols, transport media, interfaces between development tools, and interfaces to software applications.
