Philips Receives $10 Million in Mass Production of "L Prize" Award-winning LED Bulbs

[High-tech LED News] Philips has developed an LED bulb that can replace the ordinary 60-watt bulb. It has just won the "L Prize" lighting competition award from DOE. It is reported that Philips will receive 10 million US dollars. The bonus is used to help the first batch of the bulb.

It is understood that under the same illumination, the lamp consumes only 9.7 watts and has a service life of 250,000 hours. The initial price is expected to be around 30 euros after entering the market in 2012, but manufacturers expect prices to fall to a quarter of the initial price within 10 years.

Based on the annual sale of 425 million 60-watt bulbs in the United States, the use of the LED bulb can save about 83%, convert to a currency of $3.9 billion per year, and avoid 20 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
