GE Lighting signed a technology licensing agreement with Rambus to allow GE to use Rambus' patented lighting technologies, including reference and manufacturing technologies.
GE's initial plans are to build flat-panel LED architectural lighting and commercial lighting systems that currently provide LED products and solutions for architectural, retail displays, signage, outdoor road and traffic lighting applications. Rambus entered the LED lighting and display patent market in 2009, including optical design, microlens light distribution, light guides and multi-functional film manufacturing technology.
GE Petras, president and CEO of GE, said that as soon as possible, the introduction of leading products to quickly increase the application ratio of LEDs in commercial and residential environments - this is one of GE's goals. Jeff Parker, senior vice president of lighting and display technology at Rambus, said that by working with GE to create the next generation of LED lighting products, both cost and energy efficiency can be improved.
