On December 20th, market research firm Gfk Asia reported that sales of LED displays in the Asian market have continued to rise since the end of last year. In the first three quarters of this year, consumers in nine countries and regions in Asia purchased more than 4 million LED displays worth $700 million.
According to the report, in September this year, the sales of these nine countries and regions, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam accounted for 24% of total LED display sales. The LED display market sold more than twice as much in the third quarter as the second quarter. However, the display market in Asian countries is generally showing signs of slowing growth. Mature economies, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea, are growing faster than developing cities. In the first nine months of this year, LED display sales accounted for about 15% of total PC display sales. The continued decline in the price of LED displays is also a reason for driving sales.
Gerard Tan, head of regional statistics for the IT industry at Gfk Asia, said that there are still plenty of opportunities in the LED display market in developing countries. The industry will continue to see new display technologies, but LEDs will be a major technology for attracting consumers. LED displays will become popular as their prices decline.
